 Where to Eat

This place can certainly be called an international restaurant! The head chef is Polish a Mr. Robert Slezak the second chef hails from Sweden.

The restaurant itself is located close to the Sheraton hotel, off the main street. The entrance takes you downstairs, where the glass encased kitchen allows you to see the team of chefs at work. The ambience is cozy and warm and the service is top notch. The food is very impressive! The menu includes French, slow-food with a twist. Frogs legs, ostrich carpaccio and snails ensure you can try something new every time you visit. All ingredients are bought from local sellers and many of the ingredients are organic.

I recommend the home-made pasta with cuttlefish, Rabbit in Dijon sauce and for dessert, the truffle, black pepper and vanilla ice-cream.

Fran’s Reef is located in the beautiful upper part of Zagreb, close to the parliament buildings, funicular and Sveto Marko church.

You feel the warm, welcoming atmosphere the moment you step into this cozy place. The place is dimly lit and the walls are adorned with traditional Portuguese tiles. Under the bar is a saltwater tank with live lobsters.

The service could be described as excellent, the reason being that the young owner, Mr. Fran Hrzić is well traveled and has experienced the quality of service in many different countries.

The menu was created by one of the best chefs currently working in Croatia, the French Stephan Macchi. Fresh fish is the main offering here Oysters, prawns, tuna, mussels as well as Argentinean steak. Tapas are also on the menu, perfect to accompany a glass of wine or two.

They also run a happy hour every evening where tapas and drinks are offered at discounted prices.
